Taras Kompaniichenko is a Ukrainian cultural figure, musician, historian of music, serviceman, and activist. Born in Kyiv in 1969, he is a renowned kobzar, bandurist, lirnyk, and textual scholar, as well as a leading performer of medieval and baroque Ukrainian music. He leads the group “Khorea Kozatska” and was awarded the titles of Merited Artist of Ukraine in 2008 and People’s Artist of Ukraine in 2019. He is also a laureate of the 2023 Shevchenko Prize.

Biography

Kompaniichenko is actively involved in reviving traditional Ukrainian epic music, including dumas, psalms, and historical songs. He performs works from the times of Kyivan Rus and the Baroque period on authentic instruments. He also played a prominent role in national-patriotic movements, such as the Orange Revolution and Euromaidan.
In 2022, he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine and serves in the 241st Separate Brigade of Territorial Defense. His son Bohuslav joined the Ukrainian forces in 2024. Taras is married to Nina Burmistrova, and they have four children: Sviatopolk, Bohuslav, Bohdana, and Sofia.
