Mykola Tovkailo is a PhD in History, senior researcher, instrument maker, and kobzar. He was born on December 24, 1949, in the village of Korov’ye, Teofipol district, Khmelnytskyi region.

Biography

Tovkailo graduated from the Faculty of History at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University in 1983, specializing in archaeology and museology. He is the author of over 100 scholarly works on archaeology, ethnography, and kobzar traditions.

A disciple of the bandurist Heorhiy Tkachenko, Tovkailo learned the kobzar repertoire of dumas, historical songs, psalms, and ballads. He is also known as a master instrument maker, having crafted over 50 banduras, kobzas, lyras, and two torbans since 1979.
