Andriy Lyashuk is a Ukrainian musician, lirnyk (hurdy-gurdy player), reconstructor, performer, researcher, and promoter of traditional instrumental and vocal music from Volyn and Polissia. He is also an organizer of cultural and educational events focused on traditional culture and folklore, a member of the folk bands “Silska Muzyka” and “Varion,” a collector of ethnic musical instruments, and a multi-instrumentalist. Additionally, Lyashuk is an entrepreneur in the fields of advertising, printing, culture, and art.

Biography

 The reconstruction of the lirnyk tradition is one of the primary directions of Lyashuk’s research and creative work. His repertoire mainly consists of psalms, canticles, dumas, and ballads characteristic of the epic tradition of Volyn and Western Polissia. He has adapted songs from the last Volyn lirnyk, Ivan Vlasiuk, from Zaliuttia village, and also from expeditions in the Rivne region that captured traditional songs passed down from lirnyks, such as “How Saint George Defeated the Dragon.”
